Is a Golf Community Worth It If You Don’t Golf?

You don’t have to play golf to enjoy living in a Southwest Florida golf community. Many offer pools, fitness centers, restaurants, walking paths, and a full calendar of social events. For some buyers, those amenities and the chance to meet neighbors are the real attraction.

The key is understanding what you’ll pay for and what you’ll actually use. Some communities require a golf membership when you purchase a home. Others offer optional golf memberships or separate social memberships. Fees, amenity access, and membership rules can vary significantly from one community to another.

Before you buy, ask:

  • Do you need a golf or social membership?

  • What are the upfront and ongoing fees?

  • Which amenities does each membership include?

  • Are there additional HOA fees or assessments?

  • Can guests use the facilities?

If you love the community and will regularly use its amenities, it may be well worth it, even if you never pick up a club. If you’re mainly paying for a golf course you won’t use, there may be another neighborhood that better fits your lifestyle and budget.

My advice: Don’t rule out a golf community because you don’t golf. Look closely at the membership options and total cost, then decide whether the community offers the life you want. I have an excellent knowledge base of golf communities in the greater Fort Myers area to guide you toward communities that will match your wishes with the right community.
