Homestead Exemption

If you purchased and closed on your primary residence on or before December 31, 2024, now is the time to apply for the homestead and other exemptions that you may qualify for. March 1st is Florida’s deadline to apply for exemptions, so you want to get started now to ensure your timely application. If your property is granted the homestead exemption, you will automatically receive the Save Our Homes benefit, which limits the increase of your annual assessment to 3%.

In addition to the Save Our Homes benefit and the homestead exemption, “there are other benefits available to Lee County property owners with disabilities, senior citizens with limited income, veterans and active duty military service members, and disabled first responders.” For more information on any of these exemptions and for details on how to apply for them, check out the Lee County Property Appraiser’s website here: https://www.leepa.org/exemption/generalexemptioninfo.aspx
